Not every plumbing problem can wait for a normal booking, and a few genuinely can't. Here's how we'd sort the difference, and what to do in the meantime.

Water you can hear or see moving

A burst pipe, a running toilet cistern that won't stop, or water tracking across a floor all mean the same thing: act now, not tomorrow.

No hot water or a suspected gas smell

Cold showers on a frosty morning are miserable but rarely dangerous. A gas smell is different and always urgent, so get outside and call 000 first.

Drains backing up or overflowing

Gurgling pipes, slow drainage, or water pooling near an outdoor gully usually means a blockage further down the line.
